Both of the groups received nutrition counseling and decreased their daily intake of calories by 500 for a period of 3 months. One of the groups consumed 1 tsp of cumin powder each day, swirled into 5 ounces of yogurt. The same amount of yogurt was given to the other group, but without cumin. At the end of the trial the results showed that the group who consumed cumin lost 3 more pounds than the no-cumin group, totaling up to a total weight loss of 13 pounds. The cumin group succeeded in decreasing their body fat percentage by 15% that is 3 times the 5% loss produces by the control group due to the addition of the fat-burning spice cumin.
Benefits from cumin research
The participants of the cumin group had decreased levels of harmful blood fats like triglycerides, while the control group had only decreasing by 5 points. The cumin group shredded off over half of their points on cholesterol readings. This shows that the cumin-eating individuals burn more calories by incorporating it into their diets, and also this positively affects their health by decreasing the risks of heart disease and obesity.
